The demand for AR/VR/XR virtual reality and augmented reality applications, with the continuous development of Metaverse, the market needs a multi-functional full-color development equipment, and it needs to have a light volume, a wide viewing angle, low energy consumption, and high resolution. Diversified functions such as degrees, each need brings new challenges to the emerging technology of Micro LED and Mini LED.

A team from National Taiwan University and National Yangming Jiaotong University recently released a red light-emitting diode made of AlGaInP semiconductor. This material has the characteristics of mature semiconductor process, high efficiency and high saturation color. The sidewall of the device is plated with silicon dioxide (SiO2) as an insulating layer using a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition system (Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) to effectively control the direction and distribution of the current, and can passivate small components. Radiation recombination reaction.

The teams from National Taiwan University and National Yangming Jiaotong University have completed the fabrication and measurement of red light-emitting diodes of 2-micron, 5-micron, and as large as 15-micron. These novel and tiny components are sufficient to meet the requirements of high-resolution screens. Under the consideration of the full-color screen, the micron components can reach the requirement of about 5000 pixels per inch. If only a single color is considered, it can reach 10,000 pixels per inch, which is enough to meet the requirements of future high-resolution microdisplays.
