SMD LED Introduction

SMD stands for Surface-Mounted-Device. An LED SMD Module is a type of LED module that uses Surface-mount technology (SMT) to mount LED chips on printed circuit boards (PCB). SMD LED single, dual, mulit color LED chip production. It is a self-contained surface-mount LED device designed either to function on its own or to plug into a compatible unit. Surface-mount LEDs (SMD LED) are characterized led smd by compact and light designs, low power consumption and wide viewing angles, and LED SMD can be used in general lighting products and in backlighting modules, providing less fuss and with seamless application.

SMD LED modules are widely used, in LED lamps, for backlighting, home illumination, shop-windows, advertising, automobile interior lighting, Christmas lights, and numerous lighting applications.

What is LED?Light emitting diodes are made of solid state compound semiconductor materials, and rely on the interaction of charge carriers (electrons and electron holes) to turn extremely small currents into light. Different semiconductor materials have different band gap energies and consequently produce light of different colors and wavelengths in both the visible and invisible parts of the spectrum.
Features of LED?LED are small in volume, energy efficient, highly responsive, long lasting, light weight, and environmentally friendly. Traditional lighting by comparison consumes large amounts of energy and is short lived, and many countries are to begin phasing out incandescent bulbs in 2012. This will help increase the penetration rates and replacement rates of LED products, which have always been favored as a next generation lighting solution.

what is an LED package?An LED lamp typically consists of multiple LEDs mounted onto a circuit board, commonly specified at certain density numbers such as 60 per meter for LED strips. Each of these LEDs, however, come in a variety of types called LED packages.
An LED package is a plastic casing that carries an LED chip and phosphor. The LED chip is the semiconductor material that emits light (blue light) and the phosphor material converts some of this light into green and red wavelengths. This mixture results in the white light that is emitted by the LED package.

Oasistek Led Process?Upstream Epitaxy:Compounds made with arsenic (As), gallium (Ga), phosphorus (P) and other group III – V elements are used as the basis for crystal formation, and epitaxy methods are used to produced epi wafers.Epitaxy can be divided into liquid phase epitaxy (LPE), vapor phase epitaxy (VPE), and metal orgnic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD).
Midstream Chip Manufacturing:Depending on the type of LED component to be manufactured, LED epi wafers are processing using diffusion, metal film evaporation, etching, and heat processing. Wafers are then ground and polished, and finally cut and cracked into single chips.
Downstream Packaging and Testing:After chips are affixed to lead frames, they undergoe bonding, curing, wire bonding, epoxy coating, baking, cutting, testing, and packaging to create a variety of LED components (for Lamp, SMD, Display etc.)
